Eggs

Eggs are a great food if you’re looking to lose weight because of their high protein content. The key to feeling full on a low-calorie diet is to substitute the empty or low value calories you normally consume with lean protein. On top of their protein content, eggs are also a great food for dieting because of how many different ways you can prepare them. They also keep you feeling full and prevent sugar spikes that can lead to snacking.

Greek Yogurt

Another high protein option, Greek yogurt, has less fat than normal yogurt and is an overall healthier option. It’s a great breakfast food, releasing energy throughout the day so you don’t get hungry or lethargic. Thin it with a little skim milk or coconut water, and you can even drink it while you drive to work.

Nuts

Apples, in particular, are handy as they can be mixed and matched with other foods. One great snack or meal is sliced apples with peanut or almond butter. This adds a nice kick of protein to all the other health benefits of fruit and will help keep you full longer.

Chickpeas

Also known as garbanzo beans, chickpeas are basically little round protein bombs. While you can season and roast them to be eaten on their own, the really great thing about chickpeas is how easily they can be added as a filler into many dishes. Beans as a whole are pretty good for losing weight, but chickpeas manage to do it while being tasty at the same time.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a simple, but good meal to add to your breakfast rotation. Not only does it have protein, but it’s also high in fiber. Fiber helps with weight loss as well as having other health benefits like lowering cholesterol and blood sugar. Avoid prepackaged oatmeal though, as it’s often highly processed and sweetened. If you want to add some taste and volume to your oatmeal add in walnuts, almond butter, or raisins.

Broccoli, kale, and cauliflower are three particularly healthy ones, but almost anything that’s green will help you stay fit and trim.
